As the rally moved it´s path to South America the numbers of entrants increased in the quad group, and has become a mature racing group in the rally.

Yamaha has really taken a grip on the rally. Total numbers of participants enrolled in this years edition reaches 39, an increases by 9 from last year. 20 of these on Yamaha. And only year beat by Can-Am was in 2010, by one rider.
Polaris is completely losing out this year, and was in fact the first quad factory team in the Dakar rally history. That ws in 2009
New to the game is German E.-ATV with two riders Alex Brusselers, NDL and Sarel van Biljon, ZAF
